MBA @ SMART BUILDING CONFERENCE
Last Monday 5th February we traveled to the Netherlands and precisely to Amsterdam to attend the renowned Smart Building Conference at ISE 2018.
This year the theme was From Smart Building to Smart City , This was the theme being explored by more than 30 of the world’s leading thought leaders and experts at the one-day, twin track conference.
Smart Building Conference brings together experts from IT, AV, building, architecture, facilities management and others.
The twin tracks (Residential and Commercial) was offering dual insight to help you understand that Smart Building is neither a product nor a standalone technology but an end-to-end solution that will change our homes, offices, buildings and cities forever.
One important topic is smart workplace technology, often associated with the biggest commercial buildings, housing the most high-profile organizations – in buildings like The Edge in Amsterdam. While many managers of small to medium sized building developments (commercial or MDUs) might discount smart technology, assuming they don’t have the capital or scale to achieve a good return on investment. The reality, however, is quite different. Smart workplace tech may be the best way for smaller commercial buildings to survive and even thrive.
Other topics at the Smart Building Conference included building automation systems, Big Data output, and new technological approaches such as li-fi.
This year’ the event included a closing industry panel– From Smart Buildings to Even Smarter Buildings— with special guest Carlo Ratti , the leading architect, engineer, inventor, educator and director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was presenting also the ISE Opening Address. Ratti was named one of the ‘50 most influential designers in America’ by Fast Company and highlighted in Wired Magazine’s ‘Smart List: 50 people who will change the world.’At MIT, Ratti directs the Senseable City Lab, a research group that explores how new technologies are changing the way we understand, design and ultimately live in cities.

The Smart Building Conference was organised by Integrated Systems Events, which organises, manages and develops leading business-to-business events for the professional audiovisual and electronic systems integration industry.
A 50-50 joint-venture partnership of two not-for-profit trade associations, AVIXA and CEDIA, Integrated Systems Events was established in 2003. The company maintains an operations office in Amsterdam and has employees engaged in sales, marketing and content development across Europe.
Its flagship event, Integrated Systems Europe, is the best-attended AV tradeshow anywhere in the world, attracting over 73,000 attendees and around 1,200 exhibitors to Amsterdam RAI each February.
